 Join us for an evening of bats and voles, or a morning of insect and bird appreciation. On Friday evening, we aim to survey as much of Smithills as possible to establish how many species of animal, plant and anything else live on-site. Working with the Greater Manchester Local Record Centre and South Lancashire Bat Group we will survey local nocturnal creatures, using various survey methods and technology. Guests are asked to wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

 Join us for an evening of bats and voles, or a morning of insect and bird appreciation. On Saturday morning, beginning at 7am until 9am, we will focus on collecting survey traps left out the night before to identify mammals and insects present on the Smithills Estate. We'll also use local birdsong to find what species of bird are living and nesting here.

 FREE FAMILY EVENT - River sweeping, Creepy crawly microscopes, face painting, bug hunts, craft activities for children, wildlife walks looking for birds, beetles, butterflies and more. You don't need any wildlife knowledge or experience, just a keen pair of eyes and enthusiasm. The aim is to record as many species as possible across the site in a 24 hour period. Records will be input into the Greater Manchester Local Record Centre's database.

 Join Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and the South Lancashire Bat Group (SLBG) for a guided walk around Birley and nearby Hulme to find out more about bats and hopefully hear some of the amazing creatures! Meet at Brooks Building reception, Bonsall Street, M15 6GX at 21:00. All welcome & all equipment will be provided. MMU students will get two bronze MMU Futures points for attending.
