 Do you see bats in your neighbourhood and wonder which species they are? There are in fact 12 species found in Greater Manchester including Common Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Daubenton’s (the water bat) and Noctule. There will be a classroom session followed by a bat survey of the site which will enable you to gain practical experience in using a detector and identifying bats.

 The National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS) is organised and funded by BSBI, CEH, JNCC and Plantlife. The aim is to collect data to provide an annual indication of changes in plant abundance and diversity. The search is now on to find 2000 volunteers to take part in the NPMS who will play a vital role in gathering information. Together the volunteers will monitor wild plants in 28 important habitats, ranging from hedgerows and meadows to salt marsh and scree slopes...

 Butterflies are colourful and fragile insects with 24 species occurring regularly in Greater Manchester. These range from the relatively common Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell, to the stunning Red Admiral and the migrant Painted Lady which can arrive from Europe in large numbers in influx years.
