 Butterflies are colourful and fragile insects with 24 species occurring regularly in Greater Manchester. These range from the relatively common Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell, to the stunning Red Admiral and the migrant Painted Lady which can arrive from Europe in large numbers in influx years.

 Top predators of the insect world, dragonflies and damselflies are also incredibly beautiful and amazing to watch as they hunt over and patrol their territories. Partly as a result of climate change, new species have been colonising Greater Manchester in recent years.
